Icebreaker

The all-vegetarian icebreaker will end the first conference day on Monday 19 June and will start immediately after the last presentation at around 18:30. We will enjoy talking with many long-standing and new colleagues, who we have not seen in person for a long time!

The icebreaker is co-sponsored by the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) and MeteoSwiss.

Excursion

The excursion on Wednesday afternoon will take us to Säntis, the landmark mountain of St. Gallen (2’502 m above MSL). Besides offering spectacular views, Säntis is also a very remarkable and interesting location with respect to Alpine Meteorology and Climatology, so a must-see for every ICAM participant. After an introduction to the meteorological and climatological highlights of Säntis by Simon Scherrer (12:15-12:30 in the plenary room), we will reach the top of Säntis by bus and cable car, respectively. We will have ample time to visit the meteorological instruments on top of Säntis, have a look at the exhibitions or take a guided tour to the 123 m tall transmission mast. And, of course, we will have plenty of time to exchange and chat, since that’s what a social event should be all about! - Cable car and bus will bring us back to the Einstein in due time for the conference dinner.

For further information on Säntis, have a look at this website. - Please make sure you are properly dressed for Säntis, it may be cold and windy up there (maybe check out the webcam before leaving) …

Conference Dinner

The traditional ICAM conference dinner will take place on Wednesday 21 June in the plenary room of the Einstein (yes, the same room we use for the oral presentations, but do not worry, there will be delicious food, proper seating, and very few speeches … ;-). The casual evening will start at 19:00 and the menu will be all-vegetarian.

The largest part of the conference dinner is kindly sponsored by MeteoSwiss.
